Changes – A Great David Bowie Song
My mother would say to us, “Girls, challenges are like thunderstorms. Once they pass, and your don’t get hit by lighting, you get to see the miracle of the rainbow.” She would also say, “Girls, build up those inner muscles because you will have to fight for the truth of who you are someday.”
Mom, you said it all! I have had more challenges in my life that I can write about here. They did not condemn me to failure but showed me what I was capable of. Many of the people you hear about in books, magazines, TV, movies, media in general have some story of overcoming challenges. I had the honor of interviewing Olivia Newton-John after she dropped her album, “Grace and Gratitude.” I admired how she rose up to battle cancer and created the holistic center in Australia and walked the Great Wall in China to raise funds. What if I told you that each of us has that power within us and that the greater the challenge, the greater the journey, the greater the reward.
How did they do it?
Some say moving beyond challenges can help you gain confidence, feel motivated, and learn from your mistakes. I say it is the most critical component to creating resilience and everyone of us can do that.
Here are some tips for what can be done to move past challenges:
- Build a support team.
- Reflect: Consider the mistakes you made, the skills you acquired, and the strengths you discovered.
- Learn from failure: See failures as opportunities to learn and develop new skills.
- Have a growth mindset: Be willing to work hard.
- Feel accomplished: Overcoming challenges can bring a sense of accomplishment and relief.
- Boost your confidence: Overcoming challenges can increase your faith in yourself and your ability to handle challenges.
- Let go of baggage: For a better professional journey, let go of personal baggage.
- Fight for more in your life – more joy, more love, more prosperity, more peace, more of what fills your heart.
